Tony Serrato

Having been born and raised in Mexico and later moving to the United States as an adult, I have developed a unique and sensitive perspective on the complex relationship between these two distinct cultures. My work highlights various elements that shape their cultural dynamics. Through vivid imagery and thought-provoking themes, I aim to address serious issues such as migration, trade agreements, drug-related violence, imperialism, and the shared histories and responsibilities that connect the two nations.

While my work remains rooted in figuration, it also embraces a more abstract and conceptual approach. This allows form, material, and symbolism to deepen the dialogue within each piece. Grounded in my lived experience between borders, my practice serves as both a personal testimony and a cultural inquiry, linking memory and critique. I challenge viewers to confront the profound interconnectedness of our histories and futures.
